Now Recruiting!
Seeking AmeriCorps applicants for financial literacy program
The nonprofit Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties (HCC) is currently recruiting for part time and full time AmeriCorps members to help make a difference in rural Nevada communities by teaching financial literacy to children, teens and adults. AmeriCorps is a national program that connects individuals and organizations to help communities tackle challenges and improve lives and communities.
HCC’s new AmeriCorps’ Literacy in Financial Thinking (LIFT) program will start September 5, 2023, and will place AmeriCorps members in host sites across Nevada to perform educational service that strengthens communities in the areas of Literacy in Financial Thinking.
HCC will provide the training needed to learn about and then teach financial literacy skills, under the supervision of Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey Counties (HCC) and HCC AmeriCorps’ host sites.
Members will connect with an expanded professional and social network and gain valuable experiences that often lead to employment after their service ends — all while earning trust and gratitude from the communities they serve.
Full-time AmeriCorps members will serve approximately 35 hours per week (average) and complete 1700 hours of service. Part-time AmeriCorps members will serve approximately 20 hours per week (average) and complete 900 hours of service.
Members will receive professional training related to their service activities as well as personal and professional development, a living allowance, and an education award for future higher education or to pay off existing higher-education debts.
Specific duties include:
- Completing the 14 training modules of the Money Smart curriculum.
- Creating a weekly training schedule for financial literacy courses for a host site population and using pre and post surveys to measure results.
- Participating in bi-monthly 1-on-1 training with the HCC AmeriCorps Program Director.
- Participating in bi-weekly Teams meetings with the entire group of AmeriCorps LIFT members.
- Completing CPR/ first aid training and complete Nevada Community Health Worker training.
- Completing HIPPA, FERPA Civil rights and Non-Discrimination training.
Preferred skills include writing skills; the ability to work as part of a team and individually; and interest in financial literacy. A background or interest in teaching is a plus.
