Drive Out Hunger 2023
Dayton Valley Golf Course and Healthy Communities Coalition are once again joining together to hold our fourth annual Fall Harvest Classic Golf Tournament, “Drive Out Hunger” on Saturday, September 16, 2023. We are seeking sponsors, raffle donations and participants. All proceeds from the tournament will benefit the Healthy Communities Coalition Food Pantries in the Lyon County Community.
You or your business may participate in this year’s tournament by sponsoring a foursome of golfers, becoming a tournament sponsor, or providing a donation for raffles and silent auctions. Welcome to 2023, where food prices are 11.8 percent higher than December 2021. Everyone is feeling the crunch. The recent post covid SNAP cuts and increases in gas and food prices have had a profound impact on our community food pantries. For the 2022 program year, Lyon County Food Pantries served almost 10,000 unique individuals and distributed well over two million pounds of food at an estimated value of over four million dollars. Over half of our clients were determined to be children and seniors. Those in need within the community increased upwards of 80% from last year. Furthermore, the pantry backpack program, a program which provides weekend meals for children during the school year, supplied an average of 11,000 meals to Lyon County Schools per month for this school year. During this challenging time, our community has increased volunteers as well as donations, and we are working together to bring in additional funds to ensure our neighbors are provided for. Today, we are asking for your assistance in making that happen.
