Healthy Communities Hosts Teen Leadership Camp at Beautiful Lake Tahoe

Healthy Communities Hosts Teen Leadership Camp at Beautiful Lake Tahoe

It’s time for our annual, free Summer Youth Leadership Camp at Lake Tahoe, August 10th-12th, 2015, for youth ages 12-17 from Lyon, Carson, Mineral, Churchill and Douglas counties. See below for details:

This is a great opportunity for youths ages 12-17 who are interested in being leaders in health and wellness advocacy in their communities and schools. The camp will be at beautiful Lake Tahoe, Nevada, and is funded through Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey, through a federal Safe Schools, Healthy Students grant. The schedule includes swimming at Lake Tahoe, one of the world’s most beautiful alpine lakes,  as well as art workshops with professional artist Brian Schorn of Michigan,  and activities with Nevada tobacco use prevention advocate Spencer Flanders, as well as  brainstorming about how youth can be more fully included in leadership roles in their communities. The camp also includes interactive sessions about how to bring education to one’s community on issues such as nutrition, mental health, safety, fitness, and prevention of alcohol, tobacco, prescription and other drug use. Transportation will be provided with pick -up in Fernley, Silver Springs, Yerington and Dayton at school locations. There will be a 5-10 student to adult leader ratio. Please contact Tammy Sutton Watts at Tsutton@lyoncsd.org or (775) 721-8676 for more details, or for a registration packet.
