Chicken Pot Pie Cooking Demo & Dinner Mon Dec 22nd

Dayton, Nevada – The Coalition sponsors FREE cooking classes for the community once a month. The next class is on Monday, December 22, 2014 at 5:30pm at the Dayton Community Center at 170 Pike Street.

Participants will learn how to prepare a chicken and vegetable pot pie. Cooking begins at 5:30pm, and participants will enjoy a meal together at 6:15pm. Freida Carbery of Healthy Communities Coalition says, “Cooking demo this Monday. No reason to eat alone! Join us at the Community Center.”

The class is open to anyone who would like to learn to cook nutritious meals using affordable and local ingredients that result in tasty dishes.

Cooking instructors are Rebekah May, certified Community Health Advocate with Healthy Communities Coalition, and dietitian Kim Mason.

During past cooking classes, participants learned to prepare lima bean soup, salmon patties, broccoli kale bacon slaw, pumpkin corn muffins, pork and beans, lamb, and a high-nutrient grain called quinoa.

The classes are part of Healthy Communities Coalition’s “healthy food hub”, a regional effort to improve access to and demand for local, healthy, and affordable foods.
