Silver Stage Food Pantry’s Special Holiday Hours and Events 2014

Silver Stage Food Pantry’s Special Holiday Hours and Events 2014

Silver Springs, Nevada – Silver Stage Food Pantry certainly has a full calendar for December!

Special Hours During the Holidays: The Pantry will be closed from December 24th through December 26th, and also closed December 31st through January 2nd. However, the Pantry will be open on December 29th through 30th. Normal hours will resume on Monday, January 5th.

USDA Food Commodities distribution takes place December 15 through December 19th during the Pantry’s regular hours, Monday-Friday from 10am-4pm.

Angel Tree and Warm Clothing Drive: Silver Springs has a community Angel Tree, with the Silver Stage Co-Op and Pantry working together to support the project. Donations are still being sought through the week of December 15th. Gifts will be distributed to over 200 children on December 22nd. Pantry director Kathy McIntosh explains, “If you’d like to adopt a family, or if your family is in need, please come by. We also have winter clothes, shoes, jackets, and pants, both for adults and children, which we will continue to collect through the winter. If you know of someone in need of warm clothing, please send them our way. My goal is for no one to be cold this winter. We have had so many wonderful people who have donated to us this year; we are truly blessed. Thank you so much to all of you that have already donated to the Angel Tree and winter clothing drive.”

Hot Chocolate and Photos with Santa: Santa will visit the Co-Op and adjacent Pantry on December 23rd at 4pm. Stop by for a cup of hot chocolate, and pictures with Santa. If you have an email address, the photos can be sent to you at no cost.

Location and Contact: The Pantry is located at 3595 Ramsey Weeks Cutoff and is normally open Monday-Friday from 10am to 4pm. Please call (775) 577-9161 for additional information.

The Pantry is a “volunteer-powered” model of co-production. It’s a unique one-stop shop that offers job skills training for volunteers, an organic community garden and hoop house where people can grown their own vegetables, weekly employment services with Community Chest AdultWorks staff, and periodic visits from area health agencies that offer flu shots and other services. A certified Community Health Advocate with Healthy Communities Coalition has an office at the Pantry, and offers on site workshops on tobacco cessation, diabetes management, and mental health “first aid”, etc.

Record Numbers: During the week of November 17th, the Pantry distributed food to 1,915 local individuals. Pantry director Kathy McIntosh noted, “That is a record for us! Our volunteers really rock and rolled!” The Pantry is part of Healthy Communities Coalition of Lyon and Storey, a nonprofit, and is indebted to dozens of volunteers who contribute over 1,000 hours of work to the Pantry each month.
